Elizabeth Peratrovich Letterpress Notebook
Elizabeth Peratrovich (1911–1958), Kaaxgal.aat, “person who packs for themselves”, was a member of the Lukaax.ádi clan of the Raven moiety and a Tlingit civil rights activist. She fought tirelessly for the rights of Alaska Natives. Her eloquent testimony before the territorial legislature was instrumental in the passage of Alaska’s Anti-Discrimination Act of 1945, the first equal rights law in the United States. Through her courage and eloquence, Elizabeth Peratrovich became a powerful voice for justice and equality.
